Recently I was presented with a new design challenge. My confrere, Fr. Paul Taylor, discovered some deerskins that his mother had been keeping in storage. He asked me if I might be able to incorporate them into a vestment in memory of his mother Irene. He mentioned that his mother had a great devotion to St. Kateri Tekakwitha so I let that guide me when designing the vestment. Since St. Kateri was a member of the Mohawk Nation, I researched their design motifs. I chose one that could be read as a star or a stylized flower
